hello!

My name is Jessica Smith. I am the artist and maker behind FOLIUM.
I am trained as a jeweler, and graduated with a BFA in Jewelry + Metalsmithing from the Rhode Island School of Design. My paper flower-making started in 2015 as a colorful mental break from the more monochromatic, physically rigorous work of metalsmithing, and has quickly grown to an obsession that feeds off of my lifelong love of plants and flowers. When I am not sitting amidst a pile of paper clippings, I am cooking and enjoying a glass of wine, or spending time with my growing collection of houseplants, who serve as constant friendly inspiration.

All of my paper flowers are hand-dyed, hand-cut, and assembled individually. No two flowers are quite the same. I work with tissue paper, Italian crepe, Canson paper, vintage stamens, and glass beads. The dyes I use are plant-based, in addition to artist's gouache.
I love new projects! have an idea? Let's Collaborate!
